How to use it

Fill in the header
Your business name and details, the client's name and details, an invoice number, the issue date, and the due date or payment terms.

Add line items
One line per service or product: description, quantity (hours work too — 2.5 is fine), and unit price. Amounts calculate as you type.

Set tax, discount, and notes
Tax is a percentage of the subtotal after any discount. Use the notes for bank details, accepted payment methods, or a thank-you.

Print or save as PDF
The Print button opens your browser's print dialog; choose 'Save as PDF' as the destination. The page is laid out for A4 and US Letter.
What this tool does and does not do
It builds a correctly totalled invoice: line amount = quantity × unit price rounded to the cent; subtotal; discount as a percentage of the subtotal; tax as a percentage of the discounted subtotal; total. All math is done in whole cents, so the numbers reconcile.
It does not number invoices for you, remember clients, send email, take payments, or track whether the invoice was paid. Nothing is stored — if you close the tab, the invoice is gone. Those are the jobs of invoicing software, and the reason Hoursmith exists.
Common questions
Is this invoice generator really free?
Yes. There is no account, no watermark, and no limit. It runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded to our servers.
What must an invoice include?
The word 'Invoice', a unique number, issue and due dates, your details and the client's, each line with quantity and price, subtotal, tax with its rate, the total, the currency, and how to pay. Some jurisdictions also require a tax or company registration number.
How do I save the invoice as a PDF?
Click Print, then choose 'Save as PDF' (Chrome, Edge) or use the PDF option in the print dialog (Safari, Firefox). Only the invoice prints — the rest of the page is hidden.
Can I invoice tracked hours with this?
